Uninstalling Internet Explorer (IE)

Today I’ve met a weird issue when IE11 was partially installed. Windows Updates sees that IE11 should be installed, but fails during the installation with an error in \Windows\IE11_main.log file

ERROR:   A newer version of Internet Explorer is already installed on the system.
ERROR:   Internet Explorer version check failed.
INFO:    Setup exit code: 0x00009C48 (40008) – A more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed.

I could not uninstall IE, however, I found a good solution on WindowsSevenForums (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313358-internet-explorer-11-uninstall-windows-7-a.html)

This command

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c “cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart”

uninstalls everything related to IE11.

Restart the computer after this and install all Windows updates.
