Removing the Adobe Reader Tools Pane

The new version of Adobe Reader contains so called Tools pane on the right hand side of the application. I cannot say it is completely useless, but it is needed only 1% of the time. It would be so nice to keep it hidden by default.

There was an attempt from Adobe to give us a way to do it. If you click on Edit -> Preferences, in the Documents section you may find the Open tools pane for each document checkbox.

It would be even better if this option worked.

In Adobe Communities I have found the solution. Thank you, tmmcentyre for sharing this!

  1. Close all instances of Adobe Reader
  2. Go to the Adobe Reader application directory, i.e.”C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroApp\ENU“.
  3. Create a new subfolder with any name
  4. Move these files from the “ENU” folder into the newly created subfolder: AppCenter_R.aapp, Home.aapp, Viewer.aapp
